Canine Companions: Enhancing Indepence Through Service Dogs and Facility Dogs

Canine Companions is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to empowering people with disabilities through the provision of service dogs and facility dogs. We are one of the first Approved Dog Trners ADIs offering our highly-trned working animals along with all subsequent support services at no cost to our beneficiaries.

As pioneers in the field, we take pride in being an accredited service dog provider since inception. Our program encompasses a comprehensive journey from breeding to trning and deployment, ensuring that every client receives unparalleled assistance tlored to their needs.

Service Dogs

Our team comprises volunteer puppy rsers who meticulously trn each service dog for 16-18 months, teaching them fundamental tasks like retrieving items or opening doors in both public and private settings. These puppies are the foundation of our programld by our dedicated volunteer force that ensures they're socialized and ready to make a difference.

Upon completion of their initial trning phase, service dogs undergo professional trning for an additional 5-9 months at one of our regional centers. This advanced stage focuses on refining skills necessary to execute up to 45 tasks indepently. By the program's , each dog is meticulously trned to provide the ultimate support needed by their future partners.

Facility Dogs

Facility dogs make a significant impact in healthcare settings like hospitals and schools as well as justice institutions through their professional handlers. These dogs are expertly trned to handle various situations using skills honed during their trning period, offering emotional support across diverse roles.

Service Dogs for Veterans

Our Veterans Initiative program is designed to provide specialized assistance to veterans battling PTSD by trning service dogs that can disrupt anxiety, hyper-vigilance, and other symptoms associated with post-traumatic stress disorder through a series of carefully tlored tasks.
