Read: 2161

Being a responsible pet owner requires a long-term commitment, ensuring your beloved animal receives appropriate care throughout its entire life. Here are some essential responsibilities for any pet parent:

  1. Feeding Your Pet: Provide nutritious and balanced meals regularly to keep your pet healthy.

  2. Shelter for Your Pet: Ensure that your furry fri has comfortable housing suitable for their size and needs.

  3. Grooming: Keep up with regular grooming routines, including bathing and brushing, to mntn hygiene and prevent health issues.

  4. Trning: Teach your pet basic commands and manners so they can be well-behaved in social situations and around others.

  5. Vet Check-Ups: Regular visits to the vet are crucial for early detection of illnesses and mntning their overall health.

  6. Quality Time: Sping quality time with your pet strengthens bonds and promotes emotional well-being.

  7. Poop Control: When you walk your pet, make sure to clean up after them promptly by picking up poop bags or using dog waste bins.

  8. Sterilization: Spaying or neutering can prevent unwanted litters and help reduce behavioral problems.

  9. Microchipping: Ensure your pet is microchipped for easy identification in case they go missing.

It's important to understand that owning a pet is not something to be taken lightly, and abandoning them should never be an option. Should you encounter challenges along the way, seek advice from fellow pet owners, fris, or professionals such as veterinarians and trners who can provide guidance on medical and behavioral issues.

The Animal Veterinary Service AVS, part of the National Parks Board, does not take in pets from pet owners for care purposes.

If you're unable to continue caring for your pet, here are some recommed options:

  1. Finding Alternative Homes: Reach out to fris, neighbors, relatives, coworkers, or acquntances who might be interested in adopting your pet.

  2. Online Ads: Post on social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok to find an adopter. Ensure you share any existing medical conditions with potential adopters and conduct a background check to ensure they are suitable for pet ownership.

  3. Rehoming Assistance: Contact Animal Welfare Groups that work closely with AVS. These partners include Action for Singapore Dogs, Animals Lovers League, Bunny Wonderland Singapore, and more.

Rehoming takes time; it's not uncommon for to last weeks or even months. Give yourself ample time to find your pet a suitable new home.
